Why Cognitive Coaching?

Group 8 uses a brain-based cognitive coaching approach to integrate individual growth at a number of levels:

  1. Cognitive coaching itself is a powerful tool to explicitly engage a person in solutions-focused growth
  2. Cognitive coaching also powerfully and implicitly causes growth in dimensions of leadership that are centred around self awareness and self management
  3. Cognitive coaching is a perfect tool for integrating and focusing the work of individuals and teams towards realisation of organisational visions and goals

To be a successful coach, one needs to engage in beliefs and attitudes that create engagement and the opportunity for growth in another. These attitudes and beliefs could be summarised as:

  • believing in the coachee and listening as if the answer sits within them
  • acknowledging and taking seriously the contribution and needs of the coachee
  • abstaining from judging or advising the coachee

Engaging, as a leader, in coaching direct reports 'hard wires' these attitudes and behaviours into the general and default interactions in the organisation, given the clear influence that leadership has on organisational culture.

Group 8 uses coaching training for leadership (senior and middle-level) as a vehicle to grow both individual leadership capacity and organisational culture and vision.
